What is Long Covid?

A comprehensive look at the condition, its symptoms, and its impact.

The Basics

Long Covid, officially known as Post-COVID-19 Condition, refers to a wide range of new, returning, or ongoing health problems that people experience after being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. These symptoms can last for weeks, months, or even years.

It's important to understand that anyone who gets COVID-19 can develop Long Covid, regardless of how mild their initial illness was. The journey is different for everyone. Some people may recover in a few months, while others, like many in our community, face a much longer road to recovery, sometimes lasting for years.

Levels of Severity

Mild

Symptoms are noticeable but don't significantly impact daily activities. You might experience lingering fatigue or "brain fog," but are still able to work, study, and manage most daily tasks.

Moderate

Symptoms are more persistent and significantly limit daily activities. You may need to reduce work hours, take frequent rests, and find it difficult to engage in social or physical activities.

Severe

Symptoms are debilitating and can leave a person housebound or even bedridden. This level often involves conditions like severe ME/CFS or POTS, requiring full-time care and making work or independent living impossible.
